Items returned to the library are isolated for three days before being checked-in. As a result, patrons may receive renewal/overdue notifications for items returned. Fines will not be charged for items returned on or before the due date.

June 13, 2018 Minutes of the Board of Trustees Twin Falls Public Library The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, in the Library’s Board Room. Attending the meeting were Trustees Chris Vaage, Kyle Tarbet, John Van Engelen, Cindy Bezas and City Council Library Liaison Ruth Pierce. Library Director Tara Bartley and Staff Karolee Sorenson. Absent Trustee Monica D’Angelo. Ruth Pierce dismissed herself from the meeting at 6:00 pm. Chairman Chris Vaage called the meeting to order at 4:34 pm with brief introductions. The Trustees MSC approval of the June 13, 2018 agenda. Kyle Tarbet motioned to approve. John Vanengelen 2nd the motion.

The Trustees MSC approval of the May 9, 2018 minutes. John Vanengelen motioned to approve. Cindy Bezas 2nd the motion.

Approval of Financial Statements The Trustees MSC the approval of the May 2018 bills. John Van Engelen made the motion to approve last month’s bills, Kyle Tarbet 2nd the motion. Roll call vote taken. Approved 4-0. Financial/Statistical report: John Van Engelen made the motion to approve the May 2018 Financial Statements. Cindy Bezas 2nd the motion. Roll call vote taken. Approved 4-0.

Communications & Correspondence

This year’s Summer Reading theme is Libraries Rock!

June 7 – Kick off to Summer Reading. Musical Instrument Petting Zoo at the City Park Band Shell.

June 12 – Master Gardner’s @ 6:30. Talk about the weather, water and what it means for your plants.

June 20 – Midsummer Family Party 6-8 PM

June 22 – Brian Olmstead with the Twin Falls Canal Company will present a program The Canal System and a tour of tunnels in Rock Creek.

June 26 – Mark Kroos Concert 7:00 pm City Park Band Shell

June 27 – POP-UP Book sale 10-6

Tuesday’s at 10:30 am – Preschool summer reading Wednesday’s at 10:30 am – Elementary summer reading Thursdays at 3:00 pm – Teen summer reading

City Council

Tuesday June 19 from 6-9 there will be an open house in the City Hall’s overflow room for public input on a recreation center in Twin Falls.

July 7 at 10:00 am is the ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Commons area downtown Twin Falls.  There will also be a Criterium bike race. Clif Bar Pro sponsored team will be attending.

Library Foundation

 The Foundation is planning to have a day to help and encourage patrons sign up for Fred Meyers Community Rewards.  They hope to do it during summer reading.

Approved $500.00 for Mark Kroos concert on June 26.

Ron Moody is a new board member.  Replacing Tim Coiner.

Pop Up Book Sale on June 27 from 10-6.

Deed of Gift to give to the Trustees.

Finance & Budgeting

Review of the new format on financial statements.  Meeting with City Finance Department Monday June 18 to discuss budget procedures.

Planning & Public Relations

Establishing a marketing plan, focusing on the goals of the library and the services the library offers.  Before the Movies library advertisement will run before each movie, 15 seconds beginning June 22 – July 22.  Upcoming Humans of the Magic Valley will present end of July with Art in the Park.

Operations & Personnel

Update on circulation policy to include Chrome book and change from one year to six months possibly 90 days for refunds on lost books.  Voting was tabled until next month for rewording of the policy. Recommended to update the personnel policy.

Business Issues

The Foundation will receive the maquett of John Hayes and will be placed in the Idaho room at the library.  Request to donate art to Foundation to sell.  Approved.  Hopi Indian paintings by Richard Johnson will be donated to CSI.


Library Staff

Library Director

Depository collection – Read Return Repeat.  The library will be placing bins with various business’s in the community with approximately 25 books to be loaned out to citizens within the community.  The idea is to take a book from the bin, read it, return it or replace with another book and repeat the process.

All staff meeting on June 22 on fire safety.  The fire department will attend. 

Database review – Law Depot.  Database carries a variety of different legal documents which patrons can access.  Comic graphic and Novel – RB Digital is offering graphic novels on digital form.  Travel – Replacing travel books with more current and up to date information.

Thursday August 9 the library will close at 6:00 pm to attend the all staff picnic.

Tara will be on vacation the next few Fridays and June 19 – 22.
