Items returned to the library are isolated for three days before being checked-in. As a result, patrons may receive renewal/overdue notifications for items returned. Fines will not be charged for items returned on or before the due date.

The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in the Library’s Board Room. Attending the meeting were Trustees Chris Vaage, John Van Engelen, Cindy Bezas, Monica D’Angelo. Library Director Tara Bartley and Staff Karolee Sorenson. Absent Kyle Tarbet and Ruth Pierce. Chairman Chris Vaage called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm with brief introductions. Motion was made to approve the agenda for August 8, 2018 meeting. John Van Engelen motioned to approve the agenda; Monica D’Angelo 2nd the motion. The Trustees MSC approval of the July 11, 2018 minutes. Cindy Bezas motioned to approve the minutes; Monica D’Angelo 2nd the motion.

Approval of Financial Statements The Trustees MSC the approval of the July 2018 bills. John Van Engelen made the motion to approve last month’s bills, Cindy Bezas 2nd the motion. Roll call vote taken. Approved 4-0. Financial/Statistical report: Review of the financial reports. Karolee reviewed the new budget report with the board. Discussion on the review regarding how In- Kind Donations are recorded. Tara reached out to Lori Race, CFO with the City of Twin Falls on how the city would like for us to record these donations. Waiting for a reply. Discussion was made regarding financial reports the board would like to receive. It was decided to eliminate the Current Month compared to Current Year and replace with Profit & Loss Budget vs Actual. Monica D’Angelo motioned to approve the financial statements for July 2018; John Van Engelen 2nd the motion. Roll call vote taken. Approved 4-0.

Communications & Correspondence

Summer reading ended July 28. Summer reading this summer was very successful. Youth services handed out 2000 reading logs. Of the 2000, 790 were returned. Three reading programs a week. One for Preschool; 859 attendees, one Elementary; 867 attendees and one for Teen with 156 attendees.

173 attendees for the Block Party on July 20th.

July 21 – International Rescue Committee for Citizenship was here in the Library helping people establish citizenship in the United States.

On July 23 Tara spoke at City Council budget talks.

July 27 – Humans of the Magic Valley from 5:00 – 8:00 pm with the Magic Valley Arts in the Park

August 7 – Aquifer Presentation at 6:30 pm

August 9 – The Library will close at 6:00 for the Twin Falls Library staff picnic

. August 10 – Coffee with Jim Jones, discussing his book A Little Dam Problem at 10:00 am August 15 – Pop-Up-Book sale outside on the north side of the Library. Hardback books are $1.00, paperback .50 cents and children books for hardback are .50 cents and paperback will sell for .25 cents.

August 20 – The Library will begin their school programming and the Bookmobile will start their Fall schedule

September 3 – The Library will be closed for Labor Day.

September 8, 2018 is the Scramble Fore Books at the Twin Falls Golf Club. Teams are full. Sponsor ship opportunities are still available. Jake and Diane attended Non Profit Conference in Sun Valley. Diane attended the CPR/1st Aide Training and Fire Safety training with the Library.

Business Issues

Discussion on transfer of Richard Joshua paintings to CSI. Cindy Bezas motioned to have the paintings appraised. John Van Engelen 2nd the motion. Motion passed. The Library received ten iSTEM Lending Library kits from CSI. The kits were received from grant funding for lending to educators in the Magic Valley. Discussion on how to make these kits available to educators regarding non-resident educator cards. It was decided to check out resources and make a motion to act in the September meeting. Heidi Campbell will come into the Library to teach and train on how to use the kits.

Library Staff

Karolee came to work for the library on March 27, 2017 as the Administrative Assistant. Prior to the library she worked 20 years as an accounting manager for a local engineering firm. After 20 years it was time to make a change. Having grown up in Twin Falls and in the library neighborhood, Karolee was ready to return home. She does the accounting and personnel services for the library. Karolee has helped with the Summer Reading program, trained on bookmobile, youth services and circulation department. Karolee is currently running the program “Read, Return, Repeat”. This is a program where a bin with a variety of books has been placed at various placed though out the community in order to encourage people to read and reach people who may not have access to books or the library. Currently the bins are located at four locations. Cross point Counseling, Twin Falls Parks and Rec., Community Action Center, and Safe house.

Library Director

We will be ordering additional hotspots from Tech Soup, 3 virtual reality headsets, high powered computers for special use, and shelving for Youth services and the Idaho Room. The Library received a collection of Parent Teacher books from CSI. Working on putting a Parent/Teacher collection in the Library. No update on Special Smiles.
