Downwinders

If you are seeking records to help support a RECA (Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, aka Downwinders) claim, the Twin Falls Public Library currently has access to the Polk's City Directory for Twin Falls (which includes only Twin Falls County) for most of the years between 1953-1962, the Mountain States Telephone Directory for the Magic Valley for most of the years 1952-1959, and the Twin Falls Times-News for 1952-1962. Because of the increase in demand on these physical resources, we are allowing only Library staff to handle the materials. We will complete the research for a basic fee, which can be remitted once you receive the documents.

If you would like copies of certain entries to help support your application, please fill out the form below. The library charges $5.00 per request, or the cost of copies, whichever is higher, and $2.00 for shipping if you would like them mailed. If we are unable to locate records related to your claim, there is no charge. The cost applies to both physical and/or electronic copies, as each entry must be copied, stamped, then scanned for electronic records. The library will also provide a signed cover letter on letterhead stating the copies are housed in our historical collection. Please allow 3-5 business days for us to process your request and complete the research, and additional time if your documents are being mailed.

If you have more questions regarding the research or available resources, please contact the Twin Falls Public Library Reference Desk at (208) 733-2964, ext. 2, or email us at tfpl@twinfallspubliclibrary.org.

Note: The Twin Falls Public Library cannot guarantee our records will ensure your claim is accepted. For more information on the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, please visit https://www.justice.gov/civil/reca.
